TIRANA, Albania—A “large number” of Syrian refugees are waiting to cross into Albania, the Balkan nation’s integration minister said Thursday, as migrants begin to seek out new routes into northern Europe following a series of border clampdowns.
Integration minister Klajda Gjosha said the buildup on Albania’s frontier appeared to be in response to neighboring Macedonia’s decision at the weekend to deny entry to Afghan migrants coming from Greece and impose tougher checks for Syrians and Iraqis.
“I was informed that a large number of Syrians are waiting to enter Albania,” said Gjosha, without providing an exact number.
Although both Macedonia and Albania share a border with Greece, the latter has so far not been a main transit country on the migrant trail into northern and western Europe.

GUS Albania is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious organization registered as a legal entity non-profit organization in the Republic of Albania, at the Tirana District Court, with number 1034 dated 05/10/2015.
GUS Albania is composed of the Executives Board of the organization and its staff.
The Executive Board has the key role on decision-making in GUS Albania.The activity of this organization is extended in the entire territory of Albania, while its central headquarters are located in Tirana, at the following address: Rruga Besim Imami, Pallati i Ri, Kati i 7, Tirane. The organization was founded by a group of people working voluntarily, as they continuing to do. The main goals of GUS Albania, as stated in its statute, are protecting human rights, increasing public awareness on human rights in the context of democratic development in Albania, conducting courses, trainings, open lectures, panel discussions and exchange programs for individuals and groups of different interests, fostering the integration of the Albanian society in the European family by activating programs and projects which help to meet the required European criteria, organizing mass awareness campaigns and involving young people and other layers of the population on the integration process of the Albanian society, including disadvantaged categories, who will have a particular priority.
The members of the executive board and the Executive Director have a long working experience with non-governmental organizations.
The Executive Director of the organization, has worked in an organization focused on human rights protection since 1998. The other members of the Board of this organization, also have earliest experiences with non-profit organizations.
